Compassion is our Trump card 💪🏻💞

Right.

I could sit here and bemoan the heartbreakingly backwards decision America made last night.

I could sit here and launch missiles of resentment to all those who decided a racist, sexist tyrannical business man was the appropriate candidate to run the country.

I could sit here and despair at the future prospects of minority groups in America, anyone who isn't a white male and indeed the future of our fragile planet.

But the problem with that, quite frankly, is that I'd still just be sitting here:

Sitting here exuding bitterness,
Sitting here slating individuals,
Sitting here criticising a system.

So here's the thing:

Yes people like trump have unprecedented powers to shake up the world as we know it.
Yes there will be people who feel the brutal brunt of his decisions and policies.
And yes the next 4 years are not going to be easy by any stretch.

But it's not solely those in positions of power who have the ability to affect our day to day lives.

It's also the friendly cashier when you buy your meal deal.
It's the colleague that gives you money for the bus.
It's that neighbour who notices you're lonely and invites you round for dinner.

It is our immediate relationships with people that make the world go round.
It is community that buffers the effects of the top-down **** storm that a government can cause. And It's that support from others that makes the future that much more bearable.

And do you know the secret ingredient behind those relationships, communities and support?

You.

You, and me, your family, your friends, that housemate you don't like, that lecturer you despise. It's in our hands.

As these powerful people, politicians and governments bear down on society, bringing fear and division, let us ordinary people rise up and reach out to each other bringing hope, tolerance and encouragement.

We cannot afford to be complacent now.

Channel your despair into motivation, your anger into compassion and your worries into action.

America's political decision may have been made, but it's impact is dependent on us.

Don't just sit there.

Be kind to one another.
